Performance Data Terms

These Performance Data Terms apply to airflow data, performance values, charts, tables, calculations, estimates, technical notes and similar information supplied by AIRWINKS on its website or in an email, quotation, drawing, data sheet, technical response or other communication.

When AIRWINKS provides performance information for a product, size or configuration, that information is intended to help with product evaluation and selection. It must be considered together with the actual HVAC system, ductwork, installation conditions and project requirements.

1. Performance data is for reference unless expressly certified

Unless a specific AIRWINKS document expressly states that particular values are laboratory tested and certified, performance data should be treated as engineering reference information rather than independent laboratory certification.

Reference data may include airflow in CFM, face velocity, static pressure, throw, net free area, open area percentage, area factor or other performance-related values. The presence of a value in a table, chart, email or technical response does not by itself mean that the value has been independently certified.

2. Actual performance can vary

Actual installed performance can differ from reference values because air distribution is affected by the complete HVAC system and field conditions. Relevant variables can include available static pressure, fan or blower performance, duct dimensions, duct length, elbows, transitions, reducers, branch configuration, balancing, leakage, filters, dampers, obstructions and the condition of the existing system.

Installation orientation and location can also affect results. Floor, wall and ceiling applications have different airflow paths and installation conditions. Performance information for one product, size, orientation or configuration should not be assumed to apply to another.

3. Damper and operating position

Where a product includes a damper or airflow-control component, performance depends on its operating position. Any stated value should be read together with the damper position or test condition identified with that data. A value based on an open position should not be assumed to represent performance at a partially closed position.

4. Airflow values are not a system guarantee

AIRWINKS does not guarantee that installation of a vent cover will produce a specific airflow, pressure drop, throw distance, sound level, room temperature, system balance or comfort result unless AIRWINKS expressly provides a written project-specific guarantee stating otherwise.

A vent cover is one component of an HVAC system. The available airflow at an individual opening is determined by the system supplying that opening as well as the characteristics of the vent cover.

5. Product selection and project suitability

The customer, contractor, installer, designer or other project professional is responsible for confirming that the selected product is suitable for the intended application and that the duct opening, installation surface, clearances and system requirements are appropriate.

Where airflow performance is critical to system design, code compliance, balancing, equipment operation or occupant comfort, the project should be reviewed by a qualified HVAC or mechanical professional. AIRWINKS performance data should not replace project-specific engineering where such engineering is required.

6. Size-specific and configuration-specific information

Performance information applies only to the product, nominal duct-opening size, configuration and conditions identified with the data. Do not extrapolate a value to another size or product unless AIRWINKS specifically states that the comparison is valid.

For AIRWINKS product selection, listed vent sizes generally refer to the duct-opening size. Customers should measure the inside duct opening and confirm the applicable product dimensions before ordering.

7. Estimates, rounding and tolerances

Reference values may be rounded for practical use. Manufacturing tolerances, measurement tolerances and normal variation in field conditions can also affect actual results. Small differences between reference data and field measurements do not necessarily indicate a product defect.

8. Project-specific reports and written confirmations

If AIRWINKS supplies a project-specific test report, certified data sheet or written technical confirmation that expressly identifies the applicable product, conditions and performance basis, that document should be read together with these terms. If that document expressly states different conditions for the same data, the specific written conditions in that document control for that data.

9. Updates to performance information

AIRWINKS may revise product designs, technical information, calculation methods or performance data as products and information are updated. Customers using performance information for an active project should confirm that they are relying on the current information for the product being specified or purchased.

10. Questions before specification or purchase

If a project depends on a particular airflow or other performance requirement, contact AIRWINKS before relying on a reference value. Please include the product or size being considered and the relevant project conditions so the question can be reviewed in context.
